Wedding Iris & Emanuel

Practical information during our special day

The ceremony starts at 11:00 at the Basilica Bom Jesus do Monte

The groom enters the church around 10 minutes before the service starts and the bride slightly before 11:00. Make sure that you are in time, because you do not want to miss this! During the church service there will be live translation to English, so get your headphones at the entrance of the church.  This is the link to the address and here you can find information about the church, stairs and water-driven funicular.  You can park at a few mintes walk from the church if you bring a few euro's in cash. An alternative is to park at the foot of the hill and go up by foot or with the funicular for 3 euro cash pp (departs 25 and 55min after the hour).

We continue the festivities at Quinta das Carpas

Here you can find the address and if you are curious about the venue, this is the link to the quinta. The tradition is to drive behind each other from the church to the venue. At the quinta there is parking space available at the terrain.

General information

Dress code: festive and suitable to the weather (hot!)

Gift: if and what is up to you! Just keep in mind that we need to transport it  afterwards to another country. We therefore prefer small-sized gifts or (even better) a financial contribution to this day and our honeymoon.

Accommodation: there are many hotels and accommodation options in Braga, but also hotels at the church complex as well. If you prefer to camp, glamp or stay in a cabin, Diver lanhoso is a nice option with a great view over Emanuel his home village.

Transportation: if you do not have your own transportation between the church and quinta, please contact us at irisandemanuel@gmail.com. In general, the easiest way to move around outside the bigger cities in Portugal is by car. If you do not have a car to your disposal, you can arrange transportation via Uber/taxi which we recommend to reserve in advance.

Language: come prepared to mingle with the Portugese majority at the wedding (no, not everybody speaks English these days). This is a website with basic phrases and daily words where everything is pronounced too.

How do I survive a Portugese wedding? bring a bottle of water, so you won't dry out between the church ceremony and your arrival at the quinta. Make sure to not eat too much of the starters, which is a buffet and opens when we arrive at the quinta, because there will be a dinner served early evening (and afterwards more deserts, cheeses, pie...). Do control yourself regarding your alcohol consumption, especially during the day, as it will be hot. Drink enough water/soft drinks in between the wine and cocktails.

Touristic highlights of the region: Porto is a nice city, but also the birthplace of Portugal which is the city of Guimarães or the historic center of the small town Ponte de Lima are worth a visit. Looking for green and a place to swim? Between Portugal and Spain you find Gerês, a national park with waterfalls, forests and hot springs.
